About

The MSU Writing Center offers free, one-on-one consulting services to all members of the Metropolitan State community: students, faculty, and staff.

MSU’s Writing Center has informal tutorial sessions that works six days a week (we now have tutors who work in the Auraria Library on Sundays). We continue to prove that we are a vital campus resource by seeing hundreds of students (undergraduate and graduate) with all types of assignments (composition papers, lab reports, research papers, creative writing, and Masters’ essays, to name a few) from all disciplines each semester.

The staff consists of highly-trained post-graduate, graduate, and undergraduate students that have completed courses and workshops that prepare them for helping writers from every discipline. The tutors help writers of all skill levels and can provide help on any aspect of writing, at every step in the writing process, and on most kinds of texts.

While good writing is an important aspect in school, we realize that school is not the only place where people write. We write at work, or for personal reasons, whether it’s an email to your boss, or a bit of journaling, or even a note to a loved one. Most of us write every day, and we believe it doesn’t need to be a chore.

This site is for us to talk about all forms of writing. We’ll discuss academic writing, or creative writing, and perhaps anything else that occurs to us. We’re here to write, think, and talk about writing.

We want you to discover prose, poems, and essays in a unique way. We want you to experience it with your laptop, handheld device, or pen to paper. We want you to be able to share that experience because writing is a community effort. We want to be quirky and personal. We want you to know there is always one more piece to add.

Please note: The Writing Center services are available on a first come, first served basis for students dropping in with assignments. Students with appointments scheduled ahead of time receive preference. With our high volume—especially during midterms and finals—we recommend that students make appointments to ensure that consultants will be available during their requested times. We have many satellite locations, however, the King Center (room 415) is our home base. To schedule an appointment call 303.556.6070, go online here, or stop in to sign up. We are open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
